Cruel Summer ... Damaged people, making damages to the rest of the world.
The last story of a great series. The actual beginning to everything, really satisfying. But the coolest thing about Cruel Summer is because of the gathering.. to most of the stories we experienced before, we see the characters come back and it can all hits you at once .. so beautiful. Every single one of them had a lot to lose, their souls & the people they loved more than anything else.
Cruel Summer was actually cruel to everyone. Played very well on the card of knowing what'll happen, but how? That's the interesting part. And the most admirable thing is, this is the story that shaped the whole series, from the ground.. from the start. So to see how everything happened, instead of those glimpses & foggy tales.. now we're here to judge, in a way at least.
New faces, made a huge impact. As I said, damaged people, did it again. And I have a big admiration for the two of them. A life that once messed with you ...

The Lawless Family
Beyond the fact that the father is a criminal, but as a human being (surely in another world) in general, his type is the one I really hate, no rules, no standards, just business. A true piece of shit, no dignity nor respect. Almost.. and sometimes that's what you only need. However, it's really strange to feel ashamed, or somehow embarrassed to see a person’s spirit faded away.
In Wrong Time, Wrong Place we see a parallel road, with a fair distance. A usual trip of a father & a son, beautifully done to see the two perspectives. It's not new, the different perspectives, but it was lovely how it worked. The tension, in the smallest moments what makes the Criminal series something special.
And with Orphans, I was so happy to finally see the other Lawless, the other son. One of the most breakable stories in this universe, with a beautiful last page... like father, like son.
And to really get how horrifying what shaped Ricky, even all those kids, not just him. Now we understand how sometimes the world shapes you, each one is affected by other choices & actions. Every single act counts, every deal they made with the devil inside them. Nothing is random! ... Here you just need to fight back, and real hard.
