Reckless, a scar out of business

"So I went back to my room to feel like an idiot for a while. And believe me, I did feel like an idiot."

Ed Brubaker with Ethan Reckless is taking it as easy as possible from the very beginning, to tell his story to us. With a slow pace, he deliberately took each point so the protagonist can be honest with us, as he can at least, trying to simplify his story. Those days of choices ... where every direction and choice with a totally different life.

Unlike (and it seems that I say "unlike" in most of the stories of Ed, but among all his familiar ways, he's really trying everytime to deliver something unique, the desperation & lack of options in his characters by a special touch) ... with Reckless, it's "unlike" the others, our guy here isn't living on the path of crime and raised on it. Isn't the sort of men who're caught up on the crossfire by a past and trying to get out of it. Isn't living for monstrous desires. Isn't living in a delusion world ... no, he's good! A man took his past in order to do some good for others.

..................

He's just suddenly found himself making his living out of solving problems for people. Like Ray Donovan, sort of. (A really good TV show) but far from Ray on the dirty side, Ethan is a good person caught up in a matter of making the world better by his own hands, with a little money to keep on living. Life ... gave him a second chance of clearing up those clinging, little things inside him, the deep ones in his conscience, making it up for the choice he once made. Leading him to break all the rules, all the boundaries.

And that .. let us to know his assistant, even for a little bit. Because who's going to be an assistant of a person with a blurred past? to work in a job of this kind? unpredictable? .. to like this kind of persona? Ethan/Ed never gave us a chance to know her, one if not the most point I'm looking forward to explore in the second book.

 - "I know, but I hate car people."
Anna - "You hate all people."
- "Not... completely... I like you."

..................

A heavy but slow introduction to know him, and to realize some facts here and there, making him reach to a feeling he forgot long ago ... ANGER!

And anger usually makes people do stupid things, foolish things .. reckless things!

After breaking the ground of the story in middle, it's amazing to feel this anger, this desperation hovering for gaining some kind of closure. And to finally reach to the second part of our story, the other man .. to know from the first couple of pages that fear has no place inside him, and it's going to be really ugly.

Nothing is new, they're masters in crime stories. With a different mix, a different level of beauty & purity. So ... welcome aboard Ethan Reckless, to the messed up worlds of Ed & Sean!

Book 2 is a matter of time only, and as I said .. interested to know the kind of relationship with Anna, as well as the main story. What kind of roads we'll see?
